Insights[]

  • Christine Magnuson was Golden Goggle Award Nominee (10/8/2008) for Breakout Performer of the Year

Christine Magnuson turned a solid collegiate career into a fantastic international performance at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The 22-year-old, who competed at the University of Tennessee and won the 100y butterfly at the 2008 NCAA Championships, nearly matched that win in Beijing, capturing a surprise silver medal at the Olympics. Her time of 57.08 in the semifinals set the American record, and she came back in the final to nearly repeat that performance (57.10). She also won a silver medal on the 4 x 100 Medley Relay, teaming with Natalie Coughlin, Rebecca Soni and Dara Torres to break the American record by five seconds.
