Background[edit | edit source]
- In swimming, DPS = Distance Per Stroke.
Insights[edit | edit source]
- The longer the distance traveled on each stroke, the fewer the total number of strokes are needed and taken per length.
- Going down the pool might happen with 15 giant strokes and 20 regular strokes and 25 small strokes.
Details[edit | edit source]
Swimmers need to push the water past the waist, past the hip and make the arm's elbow straight to reach the full range of motion and largest cycle and greatest DPS.
Drills[edit | edit source]
- Do stroke counts.
- Do Swimming Finish-Up (drill)
Video[edit | edit source]
Needs much more DPS in this example of a high school freshman swimmer in a dual meet.
