The Seneca Valley school board last night hired Donald Holl Jr. as the district's head varsity football coach.

Mr. Holl, who resigned last week as head football coach at Erie Cathedral Prep, has a resume full of coaching and playing experience including serving as an assistant head coach at Gannon Univeristy.

He was dean of students at Erie Cathedral Prep and has taught social studies and physical education. It is expected he will be brought on as a teacher in some capacity next fall.

Superintendent Donald Tylinski said he had several conversations with former Pitt football coach Walt Harris about the varsity job, but said Mr. Harris chose to remain a collegiate-level coach.

Mr. Holl officially begins his tenure with Seneca Valley at the beginning of the new school year in September 2009. He will be on hand during the summer to help set up his program and hire staff, Dr. Tylinski said.
