Leading the American sprinting resurgence is Weber-Gale, a 22-year-old from Wisconsin who won the 50 free, beating, among others, two-time defending Olympic gold medalist Gary Hall Jr..

His coach at Texas, Eddie Reese, who is also the U.S. men's head coach, had always told him kicking was his gift, but Weber-Gale didn't figure out how to fully integrate it into his stroke until this March 2008. Since then he has lowered his PRs by a second in the 50 and a second and a half in the 100.

Career Highlights:

Won his first NCAA title in the 100y free in 2006 ... swam prelims for the winning 400m free relay at both the 2007 and 2005 World Championships ... won his first U.S. national title in the 100m free at the 2004 Nationals … narrowly missed a spot on the 2004 Olympic Team, finishing seventh in the 100m free at Olympic Trials
