Insights[]
Leading the American sprinting resurgence is Weber-Gale, a 22-year-old from Wisconsin who won the 50 free, beating, among others, two-time defending Olympic gold medalist Gary Hall Jr..
His coach at Texas, Eddie Reese, who is also the U.S. men's head coach, had always told him kicking was his gift, but Weber-Gale didn't figure out how to fully integrate it into his stroke until this March 2008. Since then he has lowered his PRs by a second in the 50 and a second and a half in the 100.
