Coleman headed to Gateway

One of the top linebackers in Western Pennsylvania will enroll at Gateway and play for the Gators in the fall of 2011.

Jaylen Coleman, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound junior who has Division I college scholarship offers, played for Peabody High School in the City League. Peabody will close at the end of the school year and Coleman could have played at another City school. But his mother has moved to the Monroeville area, part of the Gateway school district.

Gateway football coach Terry Smith said Coleman has enrolled at Gateway for the fall semester. Gateway filed transfer paperwork with the WPIAL this week.

Coleman has scholarship offers from Pitt, West Virginia, Syracuse and a few other Division I colleges.

"I saw him at a 7 on 7 and he definitely looks like he has talent," Smith said.

Coleman's transfer will still have to be approved by the WPIAL.

Also, Smith said Aaron Luster-White, a basketball player at Allderdice, has transferred to Gateway.
