Lou Polito is the former director of the City of Pittsburgh Big League Sports program. Begun in 1994 with more than 200 youth participants, he grew the program to more than 10,000 participants in what Pennsylvania Sports and Fitness magazine called; " The nation's largest most comprehensive inner city youth sports program". Lou has worked with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Opportunity Through Baseball of Denver, Colorado, and many of the top baseball trainers in the United States (also known as USA) Flag of the United States.svg. He also is the co-designer of the Pittsburgh Pirates Rookie Ball Program and Jr. Pirates program. His hands on experience and teaching methods have been cited by many in the Pittsburgh area as the premiere youth baseball/softball trainer in his field. He founded the City Of Pittsburgh's Mayor's Cup Little League, Girls Softball (slow and fast pitch), Pony League, Colt, and Super Colt (wooden bat only) leagues. He also negotiated the use of Three Rivers Stadium and then PNC Park for the use of the fields for the league championship games that continue to this day.
