Huntington Beach, CA - August 21, 2015 - Fresh off gold medals at the 2015 Pan American Games and 2015 FINA World Championships, USA Women's Senior National Team captain Maggie Steffens (Danville, CA/Stanford/Diablo) has been named a finalist for the Women's Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year award.
Steffens put together another banner year in 2015 that started off with her being named FINA Women's Water Polo Player of the Year for 2014. She was honored in Dubai in late 2014, the second time she has won the award since 2012. After that Steffens led the Stanford Cardinal to the 2015 NCAA Championship, their second straight title, while being named ACWPC Player of the Year.
With the school year complete, Steffens and Team USA put together a near perfect summer taking gold at the FINA World League Super Final, Kirishi Cup, Pan American Games, and FINA World Championship.
The USA Women have yet to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games with their lone opportunity coming in March of 2016 at the Olympic Qualification Tournament in Gouda, Netherlands (also known as NED) .
