[[ University of Michigan]] head coach and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women's Water Polo Committee chairman Matt Anderson will answer questions and talk about the No. 7-ranked Wolverines season on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. EST via an online conference through CoverItLive.com.
The first in a planned series of online conversations with coaches, staff and influencers on the game of water polo and the Collegiate Water Polo Association, CWPA Conversations will allow fans an inside look of the sport without having to get wet.
This week's guest is no stranger to fans of the league as under the guidance of Anderson, Michigan has risen to the top of the league standings and is consistently amongst the nations elite every season. A three-time Collegiate Water Polo Association Coach of the Year honoree and five-time division Coach of the Year, Anderson has led the Maize & Blue to three consecutive CWPA Eastern Championships to become the first program to capture back-to-back-to-back titles since the Slippery Rock University teams of the late 1980's through mid 90's.
His hard-nosed defensive philosophy and aggressive offensive style have produced an Olympic goalkeeper in Betsey Armstrong (2002-05), eight divisional most valuable players and 21 AWPCA All-Americans -- including Leah Robertson, Alison Mantel and Kiki Golden in 2010.
The preeminent program of the CWPA Western Division the past several seasons, U-M has claimed the division crown in each of Anderson's first eight seasons. Anderson led the Wolverines to a Southern Division title in his first season and remains the lone coach to claim a Western Division crown since realignment took place prior to the 2004 campaign. Under his tutelage, Michigan players have earned 44 nominations to the all-division team.
In addition to coaching Michigan, Anderson serves as chairman of the NCAA Women's Water Polo Committee, the group charged with overseeing the collegiate sport and selecting the field for the NCAA Championship, set to be hosted by Anderson and Michigan in mid-May.
In addition, the interview will provide some added insight as the Wolverines will clash with division rival and perennial contender Indiana University on Saturday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. in Bloomington, Ind. The game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network, the second-consecutive year that the Big Ten will pick up the annual contest between the Wolverines and Hoosiers.
