Mulder Picks Up CWPA Rookie of the Week Honor [1] March 9, 2009

Freshman Megan Mulder (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) of the No. 15-ranked University of Michigan water polo team was named CWPA Western Division Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday (March 9). Mulder had 10 points and 10 steals in the Wolverines' sweep of four conference home games on Saturday (March 7).

Mulder's biggest game was the first of the weekend against Grove City when she ignited the U-M offense with two goals, including the first of her collegiate career, and four assists. Her point total in the contest is the second-most for a Wolverine this season and her four helpers match the team high for the campaign. She notched five steals against Washington & Jefferson to go with two assists in the second game before tallying a goal and an assist against Chatham.

Appearing in seven games this season, Mulder has tallied 11 points. She leads the freshman class with eight assists and 12 steals. She tallied an assist in her collegiate debut against then-No. 5-ranked California on Jan. 25.

Michigan has now earned a weekly laurel for 11 consecutive times. The Wolverines did not, however, claim the Player of the Week distinction for the first time since April 7, 2008, a 10-award span. Mulder is the third U-M freshman to claim the newcomer award this season, joining two-time honoree Morgan Turner (Mission Viejo, Calif./Trabuco Hills) and Meagan Cobb (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville).

The Maize and Blue will face Gannon (7 p.m.) and Mercyhurst (8:15 p.m.) in league contests on Friday (March 13) before hosting the Wolverine Invitational (March 14-15) at Canham Natatorium.
