Melanie Buddemeyer was inducted into the Pennsylvania Swimming Hall of Fame on Sunday, March 20, 2010.

Background[]

A 1984 graduate of Penn Hills High School, Melanie Buddemeyer was both Female Athlete of the Year and Valedictorian. She was an 8-time WPIAL Champion who set 5 WPIAL records (100 butterfly record still stands today), a 5-time PIAA Champion who set 3 PIAA reocrds (100 butterfly record stood for 25 years), and in 1983 set the National High School Record in the 100 butterfly. In her career at the University of North Carolina, Melanie was undefeated in every dual meet and conference championship in the 100 and 200 butterfly, while breaking the team and conference records in both events. She was an 8-time ACC Champion and was an NCAA All American from 1985-1989. From 1981-1989, Melanie was an Olympic Trials finalist, a World Record holder, a World University Games champion, and a Goodwill Games finalist. Today, Melanie lives in Cranberry Township with her children, Alexa and Shane.
