Winter Olympians who Died at the Games[]

  • Nodar Kumaritashvili, Georgia (also known as GEO) Flag of Georgia of the sport Luge wss the fourth competitor to die at a Winter Olympics in 2010. Kumaritashvili died following a crash during a training run, hours before the opening ceremony.
  • Ross Milne, Austria (also known as AUT) Flag of Austria, downhill skier, died after striking a tree during a training run shortly before the start of the 1964 Winter Games in Innsbruck, Austria.
  • Kazimierz Kay-Skrzypecki of United Kingdom (also known as GBR) Flag of the United Kingdom, died in a training crash doing the luge in Innsbruck.
  • Nicholas Bochatay of Switzerland (also known as SUI) Flag of Switzerland died after crashing into a snow grooming machine during training for the demonstration sport of speed skiing on the next-to-last day of the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France. He was practicing on a public slope before his event was to begin.
