Background[]

A book called, Pull Your Own Weight, by two writers from Chicago, Rick Osbourne and Brian McCatchey, was published in the 1980s by the Sports Support Syndicate, a small press operated by Mark Rauterkus.

The book was later put into a one-shot magazine format and has gone out of print.

Many magazine and newspaper articles, radio shows and internet podcasts have been produced throughout the years with this theme from fitness expert, Rick Osbourne.

The original program of Pull Your Own Weight began in an elementary school in Davenport, Iowa. Jefferson Elementary School there had pull up bars across every doorway so kids in every class could do their pull ups on regular basis. The kids there grew in strength and confidence over the weeks, months and years.

The question is not, "am I better than you?"

The question is

  • Am I better today than I was yesterday?
  • Am I better this week than I was last week?
  • Am I better this month than last month?
  • Am I better this year than last year?

If you can answer "yes" to the last four questions, you have nothing to fear, nothing to envy, and no apologies to make to anyone!
