Distance Per Stroke, TEST. 1 x 25 with stroke counting on free. 1 x 25 with kick counting flutter.

Swim skills and drills set test and measurement |
6. Swim one length (with high elbow, etc. as from previous ses of drills) using fists, emphasizing pulling with forearms (helps bend of arm).
7. Swim one length fists, opening hands after pull, to push back to thighs (for push part of stroke).
8. Swim one length full stroke, emphasizing the value of hands as paddles.
The use of fist swimming is used by many leading coaches to:
(a) develop the power phase being executed in a straight line. (b) to correct the glide away of hands after entry' (c) to insure the stroke is not performed too far away from the body. (d) to stop the hand trailing the elbow. (e) to prevent an arm recovery that may be too wide and flat.
