Lesson Notes for Week 2, Lesson 8[]

Lesson: Stream and Canal Safety (ebook) Teaser: BREAST turns

Teaser: Breast Underwater Pull Outs (Words to repeat: Push, glide, pull (w fly kick), glide, kick-arms-head, come to the top, start to swim.) 12. Swimmer on back hands and arms extended on water, kick breastroke. Keep knees below surface, and whip the kick below knees. Head should be raised forward in this above drill.   13. As exercise 12, with arms half-way extended and kick breastroke. (Increases resistance to kick.)   14. On right side, with hands and arms close to sides pointing to feet, kick breastroke having feet touch fingers before kick.   15. Do drill 14 on left side.   16. A combination of drills l0 to 15 would give the basis of a kicking drill series vis a vis: 25 yards on right side, hands and arms at sides feet ouch to hands, 25 on back, 25 on left side and 25 on front.   17. Breastroke kick using three different board combinations, as; two boards fastened together or three boards fastened. Helps to keep shoulders out out water, keeps an open angle between hips and torso and develops a higher catch of the feet before each kick.   18. Using one kick board, one-legged breastroke kick.   19. Using kick board, kick each leg alternately, "egg beater" kick.   20. Arms extended "egg beater" kick.   21. Upright, in deep water, with hands upon head, kick breastroke, keeping chest above surface.   22. As above, but using "egg beater" kick. (Helps to develop "feel" for feet.)   23.
