Summer Dreamers 2012[]

Summer Dreamers starts for students on July 16, 2012, and continues for five weeks to August 17, 2012.

Two different activities choices were managed in 2012 by the Neighborhood Learning Alliance:

Both the Check-Mate and the & and Water Polo activities are choices at the U-Prep site.

Students and parents needed to make an application to Pittsburgh Public Schools by May 15, 2012. Get your first choice. There are limited spaces. Do not delay.

Students learn skills and get to master activities in these programs that last a lifetime. Once you learn to play chess or once you learn to swim, you'll be able to do that for the rest of your life. Build an accomplishment this summer that will remain with you forever.

U-Prep U Prep Overhang U-Prep is also called Mararet Milliones. The school is just off of Centre Avenue in Pittsburgh's Hill District, behind the University of Pittsburgh. The school is generally for those in grades 6 to 12.

Global News for U-Prep Summer Dreamers Academy[]

August 8, 2012, was a trip to PNC Park for an evening Pirate baseball game, starting time 7:05 pm at PNC Park. Every student got two tickets to the game. All transportation and other dealings were on your own. No bus.

Those who attend Summer Dreamers at King went to the game on August 14, 2012, and those that attend at Carmault go on August 6, 2012. But, the U-Prep kids go on August 8, 2012.

Wallace Foundation[]

Summer Dreamers Academy is a PPS program that operates with the support of various foundations now that the Federal Stimulus funding has ended. For the first two years, 2010 and 2011, federal funds helped to pay for the operations of the programs: paying for teachers, supplies, activity providers, buses, food, etc. In year three, 2012, a large sum of money, more than $1.4 million, has been provided by the Wallace Foundation, as well as other donors. The Summer Dreamers program is going to be around for the future.

Not Everyone Got Into the Program[]

Not everyone got into PPS Summer Dreamers in 2012. More than 1,700 people made an application to 2012 Summer Dreamers and were sent a letter with the bad news that they would not be able to be a part of the 2012 camp.

Those in the camp got to celebrate. Everyone was encouraged to attend the camp every day it is held as others wanted to be in that place for the 25 days of camp.

If you did not get into the 2012 Summer Dreamers, some other programs for Swim & Water Polo are were created for consideration. If interested, send an email to the coach, Mark Rauterkus, Mark@Rauterkus.com.
