One of the single greatest destroyers of the brain and overall health is the consumption of sugar sweetened beverages with the ingredient: high fructose corn syrup (hfc). The effects are cumulative and devastating, but overlooked because they are so rampant.
At one point in history over a century ago, it was extremely difficult to consume large quantities of sugar in a given day. This is because nature hides sugar in fibrous foods (fruit, vegetables, grains) to reduce its intake. But now, once it was determined that the inclusion of sugar in any food or drink could exponentially increase the consumption of that food/drink, this one ingredient (sugar, hfc), that was once labeled a poison, began to be extracted from certain foods(corn etc.) and placed into almost every processed food in excess. By consuming just 2 sweetened beverages per day, it is possible to introduce over 55-80 pounds of ADDED SUGAR to your body per year. Compare this to 1900 when the average total amount consumed per yr was approximately 25 pounds vs 135 pounds as of 2013!
Your body simply cannot handle sugar in anywhere near this amount. The two most important results are impaired circulation and brain function, in addition to lowered immunity, sub-par energy, obesity and the obvious host of blood sugar issues (hypoglycemia, diabetes). Lets remember that anything that negatively impacts circulation or the brain impacts all other system, organs and tissues. This singular health violation is directly responsible for the failure to thrive intellectually and emotionally that many children (and adults) experience, with the end result being the progressive destruction of our most valuable psychological assets: concentration and motivation. We will see that no amount of improved instruction or training can effectively counteract this unless physiological measures (diet, lifestyle) are introduced.
But by making a commitment to instead simply drink WATER instead of sweetened beverages (pop, soda, juice drinks, punch, 'energy' drinks, etc.) you can completely change your circulation, brain function and over all energy state in a way that will seem miraculous.
