Lance Armstrong finished 1st in the 1992, 1993 and 1994 Thrift Drug Classic, 2nd in 1995's race.

The 7th Thrift Drug Classic was hosted on Sunday, June 8, 1997 and was the USPRO Women's Championship. The race was 44 miles total, 2 climbs up Mt. Washington, 7 small laps, 2 large laps with 100 registered riders and a $25,000 prize purse.

Top finishers were: Karen Kurreck, Team Klein, 1:49:34; Zulfia Zabirova, Dream Team same time; Jolanta Polikevieciute, Lithuanian Nation, same time; Edita Pucinskaite, Dream Team same time; and Rasa Polikevieciute, Lithuanian Nation same time.

The Elite Men's Race was 110 miles total, 11 climbs up Mt. Washington, 5 small laps, 11 large laps with 200 registered riders and a $75,000 prize purse.
