The 7th Thrift Drug Classic was hosted on Sunday, June 8, 1997 and was the USPRO Women's Championship. The race was 44 miles total, 2 climbs up Mt. Washington, 7 small laps, 2 large laps with 100 registered riders and a $25,000 prize purse.

The Elite Men's Race was 110 miles total, 11 climbs up Mt. Washington, 5 small laps, 11 large laps with 200 registered riders and a $75,000 prize purse.
