XP[]

This XP commemorates the completion of the Liberty Mile road race for the earner. It is awarded to students who successfully complete the Liberty Mile road race.

Completion Time[]

It will take as few as 4 minutes to earn this mile (like Steve Prefontaine), but will most likely take a few hours for the event and race and perhaps a week or so of training if needed to prepare for the mile run.

Evaluation Criteria[]

Swim & Water Polo Coaches with the BGC will award the badge to all the competing students at the end of the race when they have witnessed its completion (and will be cheering the students on during the race and at the finish!).

Training[]

Summer Dreamers Swim & Water Polo coaches will be oriented in the City of Learning badging process during their initial training by the Summer Dreamer supervisors and management before the summer session. As part of this initiation, they will be made aware of the requirements for the Liberty Mile badge and be instructed when to award the badge.

Additional Considerations[]

All of the participants in the Summer Dreamer Swim & Water Polo Camp will participate in the Liberty Mile road race, so the badge will be a goal for all. This badge, and other fitness goals badges, make up the Exercises suite of badges that encourage specific and positive goal setting for the students. This badge and others, then, are stepping stones to provide a healthy and positive progression for the students on the way to self-improvement and goal-achievement separately from or concurrently with the Goals badges.
