Water Polo Knowledge Description
A badge that recognizes knowledge of the sport of water polo.
This badge recognizes the earner's comprehensive water polo knowledge demonstrated via a written test.
Completion Time[]
With concerted effort devoted to learning the rules as they play, students should be able to earn this badge within a few weeks of starting to play water polo during the summer.
Evaluation Criteria[]
If the student thinks that they are ready to demonstrate their water polo knowledge then the coaches will test them on their knowledge and if they get an 80% or better on the comprehensive examination of rules, regulations, techniques, and safety issues then they will be awarded the badge. This makes the badge part of a formative process of acquiring water polo knowledge in order to pass the test.

Swim and Water Polo Coaches will act as both the assessors and issuers for this badge.
Training[]
Summer Dreamers Swim and Water Polo coaches will be oriented in the City of Learning badging process during their initial training by the Summer Dreamer supervisors and management before the summer session. As part of this initiation, they will be made aware of the requirements for the Water Polo Knowledge Badge and be taught how to administer the necessary test to award the badge.
Additional Considerations[]
This badge is unconnected to other badges in the program, but will be a goal for all participants so that all athletes have a better knowledge of the rules, regulations, and techniques of water polo such that matches are more fun and played at a higher level than otherwise. If the badge encourages students to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of water polo such that games are more fun, go more smoothly with less rule breaking and ignorant fouls, and if students become more apt to maintain their fitness by playing water polo in the future, then this badge will have been a great success. A potential challenge for this badge, however, is providing enough incentive to the athletes for them to commit concerted effort to learn the rules of water polo and then sit through a test to demonstrate their acquired knowledge.
